Kung Fu is a traditional Chinese martial art that has been practised for centuries. Although many people associate Kung Fu with impressive kicks, acrobatics and action films, its true purpose is much broader. It is a lifelong discipline that develops physical skill, mental focus, confidence and self-control.
Training in Kung Fu combines striking techniques, footwork, balance, flexibility, coordination and conditioning with an understanding of timing, distance and strategy. Regular practice helps improve strength, agility, posture and cardiovascular fitness, while also encouraging perseverance, respect and discipline.
At Wensum Kung Fu & Tai Chi, we teach Chin Woo Kung Fu, a traditional Northern Shaolin style renowned for its dynamic movements, athletic techniques and rich heritage. The Chin Woo tradition was established to preserve and promote the highest standards of Chinese martial arts, combining practical self-defence with personal development and lifelong learning.
Our Head Coach, Alasdair Monteith, learned Chin Woo Kung Fu directly from our Grandmaster, Teng Wie Yoo, of the Selangor Chin Woo Wushu Association in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We are proud to continue this traditional lineage while combining it with modern, supportive coaching methods that make authentic martial arts accessible to people of all ages and abilities.
