Chin Woo Competitors Visit Wensum Kung Fu After World Championships
Friendship in the Martial Arts
In August 2026, our Kung Fu students had a very welcome surprise when we were joined by two special visitors following the 18th Chin Woo World Championships in Germany.
Master Andrew Harris, Head Coach and Director of the British Institute for Chinese Martial Arts (BICMA), had led the team as well as competing himself, returning home as a two-time Gold medallist. Joining him was BICMA’s Jennifer Maunton-Gardiner, who also competed as part of the team and is herself no stranger to competition success.
The team did themselves proud, winning multiple medals and enjoying the opportunity to compete alongside – and make new friends with – fellow Chin Woo practitioners from around the world.
Shortly after returning from Germany, Andrew and Jennifer joined our Wensum students for an impromptu training session. It was a great opportunity for the class to train with them, hear about their experiences at the championships and, of course, take a closer look at the medals!
Our connection with BICMA
Wensum Kung Fu & Tai Chi has a long-standing connection with the British Institute for Chinese Martial Arts.
Andrew originally trained as a student of our Head Coach, Alasdair Monteith, who founded BICMA in 1994. Andrew later became Alasdair's business partner, and they ran the organisation together. When Alasdair moved to Norfolk, Andrew took over the running of BICMA, while Alasdair went on to establish Wensum Kung Fu & Tai Chi.
Our clubs remain proudly affiliated, maintaining the friendship and shared commitment to the high standards of Chin Woo Kung Fu in which we all trained.
Congratulations once again to Andrew, Jennifer and the entire BICMA team on a fantastic result – and thank you both for making time to visit us so soon after returning home. Our students thoroughly enjoyed having you in class!
